A Complete Buyer Guide For Lean Six Sigma Certifications In 2024
As an IT person, you have the business. It is because of you that the business can function the way it does. For example, it is because of the payroll application you built that the HR Department can calculate and imburse salaries of staff. Or perhaps, because of the wonderful CRM you configured, Sales staff can work from home easily. You leave your mark on the products you make.
The products are popular for a particular feature, and that feature was customized by people like you. So it is your stamp on that product, or even service.
What remains is, influencing your business and customers to know that they are being offered unique products and services. This requires an analysis of what is, and what can be potentially done.
For example, you build a website for your business. Not very many people can use that website to offer support to customers. You start a campaign to raise awareness about how the business can support five times the more customers by taking orders and offering Chatbot services to resolve their queries.
Lean Six Sigma provides a toolset to quantify or qualify, as the need arises, your efforts taken in order to achieve a sustainable result. Not everything needs to be a numbers game. What is crucial, is realizing what data you need to see what occurs often and how you can reinforce it.
A Human Chain of Belts
You have certain responsibilities in your company. Based on those, and the skills that you are strong at, you can choose between three alternatives : The Black, Green, and Yellow Belts.
I'll explain better with an example.
At a start-up that brought out a push notification system for an E-commerce app, the team were very good at coding, but they shied away from telling people about what they were good at, and what they had achieved. As a result, their sales stagnated.
The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belts asked questions to team members and people among the customer organization to see what was valued by each one of them. They gathered information straight from the people who could possibly affect sales. The Six Sigma Green Belts assessed and confirmed that the team was handling the development of the system in a way that was desired by the customer organization. The system was timely and accurate in pushing out notifications to the app, and worked nicely together with the app's code.
The Lean Six Sigma Black Belts influenced the company and the customer organization by helping them accept the level of service that was usual to be found at the company based on the Green Belts' findings. It resulted in an awareness of the brand, and as well, opened up possibilities of a fruitful relationship among the two companies.
As you will see, Each Belt focused on a particular set of tasks, and they chose to be a part of the system of Belts, because that was what they could do best.
Which Belt is right for me?
Our recommendation Go in for a specific certification based on what you really want to do, and how well you know you can do it. For example, if you are a specialist and love analyzing situations, go in for a Green Belt. If you are good at putting things together to see the big picture, go in for a Black Belt. If you are good at gathering pieces of information, go in for a Yellow Belt. It all boils down to your role and what you excel at.
